Under Construction… web page and the ReTreat!!

G’Day and welcome, welcome to the home of sustainable living in the Texas Hill Country. For those of you that read the first revision you will notice some changes here; we’re expanding, we have momentum and we’re motivated!

Just 10 minutes south-west of Wimberley and half way between Austin and San Antonio, step into the energy that is Panther Canyon; sustainable, straw bale, raw food lifestyle accommodation based on the principles of permaculture and getting back to basics and ‘community’.

I’d like to go into a little detail about the ReTreat side of things. It comes from the Australian dictionary-
Re: to do again, often, once more; and Treat: feels good, special, enjoyable, good for you, romantic…delicious.

I’m sure you’re getting the picture now- treat yourself to something good often!!
There may be a few other explanations required as we go along so I’ll be adding and Aussie- American translation menu shortly… but for now if something doesn’t quite read right, drop me a line.

Stage one of the property is scheduled for opening 3rd quarter 2010 with 3 cabins and a pavilion. Each cabin will have a garden within it’s confines for you to pick from at your will. Cabins will be solar passive, energy efficient and 100% off grid, the water you drink and bath in has come direct from the clouds and stored until needed, heated from the sun.

Whether you’re wandering our 20 acres breathing in fresh country air, taking in the beautiful view towards Canyon Lake from Meyers Mountain or trying a new yoga pose on one of the many ‘yoga platforms’; relish in the thought that not only are you doing something good for you, you are also doing something good for the environment.

Panther Canyon Cabins will be constructed using sustainable and renewable resources with the emphasis on education and community spirit. You can volunteer “sweat equity” while learning about straw bale construction, natural swimming pools, permaculture, alternative energy, rain water harvesting… the list is endless. Children are welcome, mine will be there, they are our future and the ones to nurture, to share with, to enjoy.

Subsequent stages will open 2011 with an additional 10 cabins, 2 bunk houses, camping grounds and a workshop for bio-diesel production on an additional 70+ acres. I have included bunk houses because we want kids, kids of all ages, all backgrounds any religion, learn and develop Life’s principles and values;  be a part of something wonderful and inspiring.

We will offer courses in raw food preparation, natural hygiene, yoga, sustainable living, rain water harvesting, grey & black water systems and alternative energy- during your stay you will encouraged to participate in the day to day activities around the property to the extent you want to get involved; from maintaining swales to adjusting solar array inclination, spreading compost to taking an hour out for meditation or a sun bathe… the day is yours.

The ‘heart’ of Panther Canyon will be the pavilion, the community hall. Your cabin has no television, talking with fellow guests is promoted and meals can be shared and enjoyed in the company of others, friends, family. Laugh together, share life experiences together but most of all; be inspired to get to know people, to get back to the basics, to start friendships and share knowledge.

Pop back and check this page often, we are developing and so are our ideas- join me on the Journey.

Have a sensational day, we look forward to sharing one with you soon!
